Bordering on Deranged: The Ugly and Illogical Place to Which Relativism and Godlessness Have Led Us

If you look for truth, you may find comfort in the end; if you look for comfort you will not get either comfort or truth only soft soap and wishful thinking to begin, and in the end, despair.
C. S. Lewis

When any culture starts calling good evil and evil good, Truth is the only rebellion left.
Dr. Everett Piper

Key point: America is unraveling because Americans have abandoned truth. Ultimately, the nation’s problems will be solved only when her people embrace truth once again. You can help make that happen. Do not be intimidated by the prevailing narrative. It will fall like a house of cards, and perhaps soon.

This article is part 3 of a 3-part series titled “Beware of Leftist Gaslighters.” Part 1 is available here, and part 2 here.

As He concluded His sermon on the mount in Matthew 7, Jesus declared,

24 [W]hoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.

26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”

Building on sand is a recipe for disaster, and a great many Americans are doing just that.

Stand on the Rock

Edward Mote

The hymn “The Solid Rock” by Edward Mote (1797-1874) draws its theme from these words from the Lord. Specifically, the chorus affirms,

On Christ, the solid rock, I stand;
all other ground is sinking sand,
all other ground is sinking sand.

America has a Christian heritage, and for 150 to 200 or so years, Christianity provided the moral and ethical consensus that made liberty, order, and prosperity simultaneously possible. However, since the last half of the 20th century (and some would say even before that), the nation began to depart from its solid foundation.

The move wasn’t merely a drift; the nation also was, and has been, led astray by people of influence who embraced and promoted godless ideologies, including relativism — the idea that one person’s “truth” is just as valid as anyone else’s “truth.”

Relativism assumes that truth is subjective and (as Josh McDowell has noted) therefore created by each individual rather than discovered. However, truth is objective. It is discovered and cannot be created by individuals or groups.

Here we aren’t talking about matters like flavors of ice cream or favorite vacation spots. Of course people are entitled to their opinions. Yet, as former US Senator from New York Daniel Patrick Moynihan famously said. “Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not his own facts.” Whether nor not contemporary Americans believe morality and ethics reside in the factual realm, they do; right and wrong are absolute. As a society, we are unraveling because the philosophy of relativism has taken hold and has been a part of our national consensus for quite some time. Just how perilous is the “other ground,” the “sinking sand” that Edward Mote wrote about in his hymn? We are finding out, experientially, in 2022!

Relativism on Steroids

This is reality: If two people hold contradictory views on a matter, one of them can be right and the other wrong, or both can be wrong. However, both cannot be right.

The assumption that both can be right certainly is bad enough. However, today we are seeing individuals and groups, and each one within itself is holding two or more mutually exclusive opinions. Each contends or at least assumes, even without realizing it, that all the tenets espoused are true! I call this relativism on steroids. Examples come, not only from moral and ethical arenas, but from the scientific world as well. At the heart of the problem is this reality: facts don’t matter anymore — only feelings, and feelings aren’t a reliable source of truth.

Dr. Everett Piper notes,

“We the People” have become the “people of the lie.” Our nation is now awash in a sea of deception so vast and of so many lies that it’s hard to count them all.  [Note: I have numbered Dr. Piper’s list to make it easier to read.]

“We the People” have become the “people of the lie.”
—Dr. Everett Piper—

    1. Proponents of critical race theory say they’re fighting racism while flaunting their own racism.
    2. Pedagogues of Social Emotional Learning claim to teach “emotional maturity” while they groom your children to be little more than self-obsessed, self-absorbed and self-indulgent narcissists.
    3. Champions of LGBTQIA+ lecture the world about sexual choice while demanding it should be illegal for counselors to help people change their behavior, change their desires and change their choice.
    4. Trans-advocates “Black-face” women by dressing in cartoonish drag while shamelessly claiming to be pro-women.
    5. Feminists pretend to stand for female rights while denying the genetic reality of the female.
    6. Black Lives Matter shouts that all Black lives must matter while applauding the eugenic butchery of millions of Black babies by the hands of the predominantly white people at Planned Parenthood.
    7. School Boards call parents who fight to protect their children from the terror of child porn terrorists.
    8. The NCAA says that male athletes who claim to be women are champions of women’s sports.
    9. MSNBC (and virtually every other journalistic outlet in the nation) dumbs down the word “insurrection” while at the same time calling the looting and burning that turned Kenosha into Mogadishu a peaceful protest.
    10. Liberals who pretend to care so much about America’s Constitution declare in their very next breath that our country’s ideals are systemically evil and that the writers of our seminal documents were merely imperialists working to codify their “privilege.”
    11. Educators argue that “history” must be taught in our schools while at the same time lauding the “1619 Project,” which even liberal scholars admit is more propaganda than education and anything but valid history.
    12. Advocates of “my body, my choice” demonize you and me for saying, “it’s my body, and therefore, my choice as to what I do or don’t inject into it.”
    13. Dr. Anthony Fauci “humbly” boasts, “I am science” while scolding his detractors to stop questioning him (something that anyone with even an eighth-grade education in science knows is precisely the opposite of science).
    14. Little Napoleon runs hyperventilating into the fray, crying, “We’re all going to die” from a virus that has a 99% survival rate. This Chicken Little of a man cries, “the sky is falling,” while those of us smart enough to spurn his foul warnings still enjoy blue skies.

The list could go on and on for [many] pages.

Additional Examples of Relativism on Steroids

I won’t lengthen Dr. Piper’s list with a great many more items, although I could; just as he could have provided additional examples. Here are some items that recently have stood out to me as I have observed what is happening in the world, and in the US in particular.

    • In Illinois, “Free Tampons [Are Available] in Lake Forest Middle School Boys’ Bathrooms.”
    • Democrats Now Demanding Proof of ID to Walk the Streets of Nation’s Capital — But NOT to Vote
    • Whoopi Goldberg is baffled that she contracted COVID-19. She was “triple-vaxxed” and had “done everything [she] was supposed to do.” Yet, even though she has had personal experiences with vaccines that don’t work, Whoopi holds on to the belief that if everyone were vaccinated, COVID could be stopped. After making the statements in the recorded clip below, Whoopi goes on to indicate the vaccine doesn’t prevent transmission but does decrease severity; however, “[t]he Omicron variant [actually] is  hitting hardest those who live in states with high vaccination rates — and high rates of masking.” Moreover, an article published January 12, 2022 at The Gateway Pundit emphasizes Great Britain is dealing with a “‘Pandemic of The Vaccinated’: Latest UK Health Data Shows Vaccinated Deaths Higher than Unvaccinated Deaths in Last Three Months!” The article concludes,

How much more death and disease do we need to experience before someone is held accountable for the creation and release of this virus? Let alone for the authoritarian violation of individual rights or the countless lives affected by the experimental mRNA vaccines.

This is criminal – and not just because Fauci keeps perjuring himself on Capitol Hill.

Listen carefully to Whoopi Goldberg.

    • In the clip below (from the same video), Whoopi says “protocols…are really important, because you don’t want  to walk in with this — to anybody. You don’t want, like a little piece of it in your body. You don’t want it. So you gotta stay home.” This is what we’ve heard from the “experts” as well, for months on end. But now, hospitals who have let unvaccinated healthcare workers go now are faced with worker shortages, and what do they do? Some are allowing, or even forcing, staff members who’ve tested positive for COVID to show up for work! It’s happening in California (also go here). Cultural observer and writer Caleb Backholm hits the nail on the head in his description of the healthcare situation in California. California has a likeminded counterpart on the other side of the continent. It’s happening in Rhode Island as well, and probably in other places, too.

Supreme Court Justices just falsely claimed:

      1. The jab prevents transmission
      2. Omicron is as deadly as Delta
      3. 100K children are hospitalized with COVID, many on ventilators
      4. Vax mandates would prevent 100% of cases
      5. Hospitals are overrun

Every point is provably false. Even a ‘casual’ look at the medical literature would have enlightened the Justices.

Their ignorance and dangerous spreading of misinformation is a serious problem.

    • Takeaways

Let’s consider twelve takeaways.

    • First, I’m not trying to condemn people for believing initially that being vaccinated would be a helpful move, or necessarily for falling for certain lies that have been extremely prevalent as of late. I know I used the term “Bordering on Deranged” in the title of this article. My ultimate purpose is not to condemn, but to warn in appropriate ways. We can steer clear of derangement if we will heed what reality tells us rather than simply allowing the lies to prevail.
    • Second, this article isn’t meant to be primarily a case against the COVID vaccine. Rather, it hopefully presents a case against holding on to the idea that vaccines are and have to be the only way to beat COVID. People are holding onto this idea with religious fervor, despite mounting evidence to the contrary.
    • Third, when we learn that what we hoped for or imagined isn’t true, we must abandon our false assumptions and reevaluate them. Failing to do so can exact a heavy price.
    • Fourth, lies abound, and they can be deadly. Pray for wisdom and discernment to avoid being deceived.
    • Fifth, gaslighting (go here and here) is a regular tactic the leftists use to push a totalitarian agenda. To preserve liberty and sanity, we must be confident in what we believe, and we must refuse to comply with narratives that rely heavily on relativism.
    • Sixth, the truth, or we might call it reality, will win in the end. It cannot be otherwise. The truth is our enemy only if we decide we will be an enemy of the truth. If we choose to be an enemy, sooner or later reality will come around to demand its dues. As we’ve indicated, the cost can be extremely high.
    • Seventh, we need to listen to and heed what reality tells us — for our own good and for the good of others. If that means admitting we’ve been wrong, so be it. Actually (focusing now on the personal, spiritual realm) finding the ultimate truth in Jesus Christ demands that we confess our sins and admit that we’ve been wrong, that we’ve sinned against God and need a Savior. It requires that we turn from self to Jesus for the hope of salvation and the hope of being made right with God.
    • Eighth, while we as Christians must always be loving, we also must be people of conviction. In fact, it is love that compels us to warn people that they are standing on, and building on, quicksand rather than solid rock. Some things Christians cannot tolerate. It is time for us to draw a line in the sand on many issues.

    • Ninth, with regard to many of the lies that seem to have the upper hand at the moment, “[t]he jig is up.” The narrative is unraveling; it is false and far more fragile than it appears. Furthermore, it is hard to think of a time when it has been more obviously false.
    • Tenth, some people are so addicted to the prevailing lies that they will consistently shun the truth and reality. Leftism, after all, is a religion. Some never will be convinced of principles necessary for liberty, but we must press on anyway.
    • Eleventh, now more than ever, we need to be willing to be like the little boy in “The Emperor’s New Clothes” who declared that the Emperor had no clothes at all. This will require courage, but lies that have taken hold can be loosened and exposed when enough speak out. Still, even if just one will become vocal, he or she can make a profound difference.

    • Twelfth, the more who take clear stands, the more the truth will prevail, and the less authority tyrants and potential tyrants will be able to wield and abuse.

Stand with Confidence

Many people in Christian circles today would say that Satan’s greatest weapon is division, but it is not. His most effective weapon is deception. Lies must be countered with the truth. It has been that way ever since the serpent enticed Eve in the Garden of Eden. As Christians who are endeavoring to share the gospel with others and working to preserve liberty and freedom nationally so the gospel can continue to go forth without hindrance from government, we are an army of truth-tellers. It is our job to counter lies that have taken and are taking hold in our nation and world. In 2 Corinthians 10:4-5, Paul wrote,

[T]he weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.

Will you be as effective a soldier as you can be in that army?

  1. Amen. I love takeaway #8… “while we as Christians must always be loving, we also must be people of conviction. In fact, it is love that compels us to warn people that they are standing on, and building on, quicksand rather than solid rock”. We can’t forget the “Be loving” part, but we also can’t pretend or let people believe that you can build on quicksand as effectively as the solid rock. Rebuilding this nation on the solid rock of Jesus Christ is our only hope.
