A furor has arisen in recent days over a statement made by Donald Trump about the Constitution — oh, wait! Actually, his statement was about the unconstitutional and criminal activity of Democrat operatives who stole the 2020 election, or at least acted in ways that raised serious questions about the validity of Joe Biden’s win. If ever an investigation were in order to preserve the Constitution, this is that kind of situation.
Here’s what Donald Trump said on Truth Social on Saturday, December 3, 2022:
So, with the revelation of MASSIVE & WIDESPREAD FRAUD & DECEPTION in working closely with Big Tech Companies, the DNC, & the Democrat Party, do you throw the Presidential Election Results of 2020 OUT and declare the RIGHTFUL WINNER, or do you have a NEW ELECTION? A Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution. Our great “Founders” did not want, and would not condone, False and Fraudulent Elections!
Unfortunately, Trump did not frame his statement in the best way. His main point has been obscured by his call to terminate “all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution.” Even so, I don’t believe the former president is trying to trash the Constitution, but instead he wishes to find a remedy for the problem at hand.
Leftists, of course, went ballistic and have, unfortunately, in the eyes of many, taken “the high road” and talked about how egregious it would be to circumvent the Constitution. Yet I believe, and I have said so on social media, that Donald Trump isn’t a threat to the Constitution. Instead, the Democrats are! They have managed to rig and steal a presidential election and install an illegitimate president, or at least they have acted in ways that raise questions about the validity of the outcome. As I have said, if ever an investigation were in order to preserve the Constitution, this is that kind of situation.
Carol Swain, former professor at Vanderbilt University, understands this. She posted this on Facebook:
Everyone who weights in on Trump’s Truth Social post referencing the Constitution should read his entire post. It is a rant against stolen elections and the lack of a remedy. His detractors are changing the subject. Where are the #Republicans? #electionfraud
Dr. Swain also posted this:
I have never seen a man so hated and feared as #DonaldTrump. We the People are supposed to believe the #Trump family is a crime family and not the #Bidens and #Clintons. What we have in #America are #J6 political prisoners and double standards. The Rule of Law means nothing.
Dr. Swain was responding to the fact that on December 6, the Trump Organization was found guilty on 17 counts of tax fraud charges. To me, it smells like a political hit job.
A Stolen Election — Or at Least One Heavily Influenced by Government Interference
We need to keep in mind what Donald Trump was responding to. Elon Musk, now in control of Twitter, had released evidence that the Democrats had collaborated with Big Tech to influence the flow of information about Hunter Biden’s laptop to protect Joe Biden. According to a poll, as many as 17 percent who voted for Biden might not have done so had they known details about Hunter’s laptop and other information the media refused to cover. Censorship won the part of social media, of course, also played a major role in the filtering of information. Furthermore, the FBI was involved. While some have said that Twitter is a private company and that it can censor whatever it wants, I believe this actually is a dubious assertion in the age of social media, where social media platforms are the “town square” from which people hope to get their messages out. This isn’t just about Twitter, however. Let me say it again: Censorship efforts involved the government — something that was, without question, an unconstitutional offense.

Don’t Vilify Trump — It’s the Democrats Who Have Acted Unconstitutionally
Regardless of whether Trump turns you off with how he typically makes his points, I would encourage my readers, as Dr. Swain has, to look beyond Trump’s words and to understand his main point. Richard R. Sanborn posted this on Facebook in response to Trump’s statement. I believe he is on target.
What I’m hearing is: “If you secure the outcome of a Constitutional election, by ignoring and violating the Constitution, you don’t get to use the Constitution agains me, by demanding that I adhere to it, in order to get away with your crime.”
Is Trump wrong?
Please, folks, let’s keep an eye on “the big picture.” Donald Trump has upheld the Constitution more consistently and faithfully than all other presidents in recent memory.
Our Founders did not write a remedy into the Constitution for a stolen election because they understood something John Adams and many other Founders explicitly expressed. Here’s how Adams put it:
Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.
Nevertheless, the Constitution is what we have, and when a stolen, or at least a questionable, election has taken place, those who orchestrated tilting it toward their favored candidate must be held accountable.
Let’s not lose sight of that. It’s the overarching issue!
