On Tuesday, November 15, the Supreme Court of the State of Washington heard oral arguments in the case of Robert Ingersoll and Curt Freed v. Arlene’s Flowers, Inc., et al. In this case, Barronelle Stutzman, owner of Arlene’s Flowers, stands to lose everything because she declined to arrange flowers for the same-sex wedding of Robert Ingersoll, a regular customer at her shop and a longtime friend. This post explores an argument Barronelle makes for her position. Remarkably, that argument is much like those we’ve heard for years from advocates for homosexual rights and same-sex marriage.
