In 1982—two years before his death—Christian philosopher and statesman Francis Schaeffer preached a sermon in which he warned the church about the dire consequences of the rise of secularism in the culture, and in which he lamented the lack of response on the part of Christians and the church. Among other questions, Schaeffer asked,

“Where have the Christian lawyers been?”
