Text of Bev Sullivan, Jr.’s testimony —

I was like any normal, growing schoolboy. I was an only child and probably was very selfish. I know that I was very argumentative.

However, I recall that as a very young boy, my mother talked to me a lot about God. She read the Bible to me, told me about Jesus, God’s Son, and taught me, as we referred to it, to “say my prayers.” In fact I cannot remember back before the time I had heard something about God, the Bible, and knew a little bit about praying to God.

I remember clearly a revival meeting that was held at the church we attended. Sometime prior to that meeting I had become aware of a need in my life. the Bible spoke about obeying God’s laws and I had come to feel that I wasn’t doing that. Also, I knew in a very real way that God could look right into my life and know what I was doing or what I was not doing. On the Friday night of that series of meetings I decided to turn my life over to God and I prayed as best I knew how at that time, for Christ to forgive me and take charge of my life.

Since that time there have been peaks and valleys in my attempts to live the Christian life, but I know now that this was the most important single act of my life. I have grown as a Christian, but still have a lot of growing to do. However, as I look back, I shudder to think what might have been had Christ not been in my life as I left home to go away to school, as I was drafted and had to go into the service. I really would have had a messsed-up life if Jesus had not been present to go through these crisis periods with me.

God has blessed my life so richly! He has provided me with a good job from which He has now made it possible for me to enjoy retirement. One of the greatest blessings He has bestowed is a wonderful wife and our wonderful family. These are the rightest blessings which would not have been realized to the extent that I have been blessed with them had not Christ been my Saviour. But I guess the greatest blessing that He gives to all of us who are his children is that He provided the way for us to spend eternity with Him — through Jesus Christ our Lord.
