Establish Godly Priorities, Part 3: Choosing Quality over Quantity

A number of years ago, the high school seniors at Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, North Carolina heard their pastor, Dr. Mark Corts, challenge them to embrace biblical priorities. One value Dr. Corts commended to the seniors was that of quality over quantity.

  • In Judges 7:1-7, God cut Gideon’s army down from 32,000 men to 10,000, then to 300. Remarkably, God used this army to win a mighty victory over the Midianites (see Judg. 7:8-23).
  • In John 6:1-11, Jesus fed a crowd of 5,000 men, plus women and children, with five loaves and two fish—a young boy’s lunch.
  • In Mark 12:41-44, Jesus spoke to His disciples and praised a widow who gave her last two pennies to the temple treasury when others were giving huge sums. If we ever use this story as an excuse to give less, we’re not engaging in quality giving.

Today, choose quality over quantity.
