It was an honor for Mary and Joseph to be divinely charged with being Jesus’ earthly parents, but it also was difficult because of the misunderstanding and rumor they surely endured. Even decades after His birth, Jesus was subtly accused of being born illegitimately. Realizing this kind of thing surely would happen to them, to Jesus, and to their entire family, Mary still rejoiced in the privilege God had given her, and we see no evidence Joseph did otherwise. Certainly they both obeyed the Lord willingly as the first Christmas approached and their lives took some very unexpected turns.
