When, for a variety of reasons, a male has not sufficiently mastered the art of being a man, he develops a curiosity about masculinity and men that feels natural to him. Whereas he otherwise would be curious about women, maleness still remains a mystery. With this scenario, same-sex attraction often develops. If acted upon, homosexuality may be the result. In his formative years, especially, it is vital for a boy to have healthy relationships with other males. If this bypasses him, then, with the help of other men who are willing to give him the healthy relationships he needs, he still can make up for what he has missed. As his curiosity about maleness is increasingly satisfied by a growing male identity, an interest in women can take root. While not all feelings of same-sex attraction necessarily will be eliminated, they often diminish. Even if they don’t, it is far better to seek an identity that fits with biological reality rather than to pursue a scenario that defies it.
