Mark Coppenger has been a Southern Baptist statesman — and by that I mean that he has served Southern Baptists in numerous capacities — for decades. He holds a BA degree from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, an earned doctorate from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, and an MDiv from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. He has taught in either full-time or adjunct capacities at Vanderbilt University, Wheaton College, Elmhurst College, Trinity International University, Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (where he also served as president), and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Mark led Southern Baptist student groups at Wheaton and Northwestern Colleges, as well; and participated in mission trips on several different continents. He’s worked for the Southern Baptist Convention’s Executive Committee (EC). Mark also has experience as a senior pastor; he pastored three different churches, one of which he helped plant, during a total of 17 years.
Mark has been married to Sharon for more than 50 years. They have three children and ten grandchildren. The Coppenger’s son, Jedidiah, pastors Redemption City Church in Franklin, Tennessee.
Mark Coppenger, needless to say, has been around the block and has wisdom cultivated and grown through experiences that are both wide and deep.
