Upholding Clarity in an Age of Confusion: The Nashville Statement

Upholding Clarity in an Age of Confusion: The Nashville Statement, Part 1
Taking a Stand
09/10/17—article 130
Unfortunately, lies abound in society about human sexuality, the meaning of maleness and femaleness, and marriage. However, under the leadership of the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood, a large group of evangelical leaders has signed and released the Nashville Statement on Biblical Sexuality. They aren’t popular in society for having done so, and even numerous people in the church have expressed their disagreement. These leaders weren’t trying to be popular anyway. They saw the need for the church to reaffirm biblical teaching, and they rose to meet that need. Good for them!

Combatting the Devil’s Lies with the Truth of Scripture
09/16/17—article 131
A brilliant strategist, Satan is not content to allow people to engage and sin with a realization they actively are defying the one true God. Rather, he wants them to become comfortably entrenched in their sin. He knows he has a lot better chance of doing this if he can get them to believe that God either doesn’t disapprove of what they’re doing, or that He actually is OK with it. How can we know what God approves of and disapproves of? By reading and correctly interpreting Scripture. This post explores some of the elements of this important challenge for believers.

Flawless Design
09/23/17—article 132
The surest way to ruin a mechanical item is to try to build it in an arbitrary way—without paying any attention to the way it was designed. This principle also applies to marriage. You show me marriage redefined and redesigned, and I’ll show you marriage ruined and destroyed. Let’s return to God’s design for marriage for the benefit of all—even those who are determined to make sure society never returns.

Spiritual Warfare Is Serious Business
09/30/17—article 133
In Article 2 and in many other places in the Nashville Statement, God’s way is placed directly alongside man’s way—and the contrast couldn’t be more stark. We need to understand that these two sides are in a conflict that involves all people everywhere, and we need to contend for God’s revealed truth in the midst of misinformation and lies.

Challenging a False Assumption
10/07/17—article 134
An incident form the life of Harry Houdini illustrates that one of the biggest barriers to fulfillment and contentment for many can be overcome by recognizing a simple yet profound truth. Article 3 of the Nashville Statement points the way.

An Open Door
10/14/17—article 135
This article explores several theological implications of Article 3 of the Nashville Statement. These implications are surprisingly practical, and they’re quite easy to understand. Let them reinforce your own commitment to biblical marriage. Share them with fellow Christians. Also, remember them when you contend for marriage in society at large. The biblical case for marriage is an open door through which society can escape gender confusion and frustration.

Male and Female Differences Are Blessings from God
10/20/17—article 136
Article 4 of the Nashville Statement affirms that male and female differences were a part of God’s original design for humanity. It also refutes the idea that these differences resulted from the humanity’s fall into sin. Nature affirms these important biblical truths. They not only should be accepted, but appreciated and celebrated.
