George Orwell, author of 1984, is credited with saying, “During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act.” Today, we live in a time of widespread if not universal manipulation and yes, deceit. Why have lies and deceit gained so much ground? In part because the entire concept of truth has been distorted. Remember these six things about truth.

- The God of the Bible is the ultimate source of truth.
- Because God is truth, because God’s character determines right from wrong, and because God is unchanging, moral and ethical truth do not change but are fixed and absolute
- God has revealed truth in nature, in Scripture, and through His Son, Jesus Christ.
- While truth often is viewed as confining and restrictive and (and is both to a certain extent), it ultimately is liberating.
- Freedom comes, not just in recognizing and accepting the truth, but also in declaring it.
- The revolutionary act of declaring and promoting the truth is ultimately a quest for authentic freedom.

As I affirmed in item #6, posted above, “The revolutionary act of declaring and promoting the truth is ultimately a quest for authentic freedom.” We are today’s revolutionaries, but for godliness, righteousness, and the freedom that eternal principles afford.
