Detached from Reality

Key point: Leftists either intentionally are ignoring the obvious, or they are blind to the obvious. Mark it down. In a war with reality, reality always wins.

As you are well aware, a great deal has been happening on the national stage in recent days. I won’t be able to cover everything, and certainly I won’t be able to do a deep dive on everything I do cover, but I do want to address several matters that I believe to be extremely important. Arising from them is the theme of this post, which is showcased in the title: “Detached from Reality.”

Let’s first consider the recent mid-term election, which has been rife with corruption and fraud. Consider these items: here, here, here, and here. This last article hones in on the situation at Maricopa County in Arizona and the race for governor between Kari Lake and Katie Hobbs. Keep in mind that Hobbs has been Arizona’s secretary of state and oversees elections. Thus, she’s been in charge of her own election — and it’s been a complete mess. People have been kept from voting because of all of the problems, like these —

The video is unavailable, but the audio is not.

Kari Lake is right to demand a redo of Maricopa County because so many were prevented from voting. But don’t hold your breath waiting for that to happen! Certainly in won’t happen without a fight. Hear Kari Lake herself describe her ongoing determination to right the wrongs of the 2022 Arizona election.

The good news is that awareness of the fraud and corruption is spreading. People’s eyes are being opened. Two years ago I made the case that people who manipulate votes to gain power are treading on thin ice. That still is the case — but until they actually are held accountable, they are doing, and will be doing, a lot of damage to this country. God, however sees all and knows all.

People who assume office under suspicious circumstances are rightly viewed with skepticism and distrust. As Christians, we must work to hold them accountable and pray that the truth is revealed. Of course we are to remain good and responsible citizens, but we also are compelled to speak out to oppose corruption and wrong.

This is our duty before God, who has ultimate authority.

Say What?

In the rest of this post, I’d like for us to consider something that is becoming increasingly obvious among leftist Americans. Let’s start with an item I mentioned in an earlier post when I wrote that Michigan voters had approved a pro-abortion measure 57 percent to 43 percent. In that article, we took special notice of a young man’s comment in favor of Proposal 3, the pro-abortion measure:

Devin Roberts, a junior at Michigan State University, attempted to frame the proposal as a measure that even those opposed to abortion should support. He said, “There’s a lot of energy for Prop 3 on campus right now, whether you agree with abortion or not.”

He added, “I think students want to have the same rights that their parents had when they were younger.” Ironically, lost on this college junior was the reality that the “rights” he was defending actually put his own life on the line during his mother’s pregnancy with him. In other words, had his mother wanted an abortion, she could have obtained one, legally; and Mr. Roberts would not be alive in 2022 making his argument in favor of extending a “right” that could have ended his own life.

When you think about it, it’s almost bizarre. How can any rational person favor a law that would give his parents the right to kill him? In an email to a friend on November 14, I wrote,

Here is a situation where, when light is shed on the truth, things can change. Increasingly, however, I’m noticing that in this post-truth culture, even realities that ought to be self-evident seem to be veiled to some people, even when the truth is presented to them in person, in color, and in the light of day. I would love to ask Devin Roberts, whom I quote in my article as saying that he and his peers just want the rights that their parents had, “Tell, me, Devin, of what were you guilty when you were growing inside your mother’s womb that would have given your mother a “right” to make an arrangement with an abortionist to your life, even as your body was developing and preparing you to exit your mother’s womb and be born?” It blows my mind that in Devin’s statement that “I think students want to have the same rights that their parents had when they were younger,” the meaning of the word parents totally escapes this young man.

A Recurring Theme

Let’s explore a few other ways leftists are detached from reality. With biting sarcasm, Titania McGrath pulls back the curtain to reveal the total disconnect between assumptions and reality on the part of the left with regard to biological sex.

Here’s another example. This one relates to abortion —

— but it also relates to another matter of equal importance. Yes, Jenna Ellis is absolutely on target with her observation, but there’s something else we need to realize. Senator Schumer made his claim that the American population “is not reproducing on its own with the same level that it used to” on the very same day he led the Senate to take a significant step toward codifying same-sex marriage into federal law. We are foolish not to remember that same-sex couples cannot reproduce, and that alone is a statement from both nature and God that two men or two women cannot have a marriage. Senator Schumer is therefore promoting a lie; he is making even more widespread this nation’s departure from obvious, self-evident truths.

Thanks to Jenna Ellis for mentioning the matter of abortion as evidence of a disconnect for Senator Schumer — and to Travis McNeely for mentioning both abortion and the left’s obsession with redefining marriage.

Senator Schumer is promoting a lie.

In recent weeks we have discussed the likelihood that the Senate would take up this issue. Among other things, we said, Despite all the hard and fast realities that make marriage a union between one man and one woman,

Congress appears poised to write same-sex marriage into federal law. Do not be misled. There could be no stronger of affirmation of homosexuality by a nation than to uphold same-sex “marriage” legislatively, requiring states to permit it and to recognize it legally. This is the ultimate endorsement of homosexuality.

A Dark Day

On Wednesday, November 16, 2022, the US Senate did indeed bring the nation one step closer to enshrining same-sex marriage — a lie if there ever were one — into federal law. It happened because 12 Senate Republicans went along with Senate Democrats to take yet another step in this ominous direction.

Tweeted Eric Teetsel of the Heritage Foundation:

These are the Senate Republicans who threw people of faith under the bus today [by voting for the so-called “Respect for Marriage Act”]:

Blunt (MO, retiring)
Burr (NC, retiring)
Capito (WV)
Collins (ME)
Lummis (WY)
Murkowski (AK)
Portman (OH, retiring)
Romney (UT)
Sullivan (AK)
Tillis (NC)
Ernst (IA)
Young (IN)

The Heritage Foundation raised multiple voices against the Republican betrayal.

An article sounded the alarm and expressed disappointment: These 12 Republicans Just Voted for Radical ‘Respect for Marriage Act’

There also was this statement from Heritage Foundation’s President Kevin Roberts:

(WASHINGTON-Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts made the following statement Wednesday after the U.S. Senate voted to proceed to consideration of the misnamed Respect for Marriage Act.

Conservatives are deeply disappointed by the betrayal of Senate Republicans to protect Americans’ religious freedom and won’t soon forget the votes of the 12 Republican senators who cast aside an essential right in a bill that will weaponize the federal government against believers of nearly every major religion.

There is still an opportunity for senators to correct their mistake before voting for final passage. Sen. Mike Lee has offered an amendment that provides religious liberty protections and addresses the bill’s most glaring problems. Conversely, the amendment proposed by Sen. Susan Collins offers no legal protections for the tax-exempt status of religious nonprofits, schools, and colleges who will be persecuted by the 87,000 new IRS agents President Biden wants to hire.

All of us who believe in marriage must commit to defending this sacred institution as the bedrock of a flourishing civil society. It will be a litmus test for any aspirant for the White House in 2024.

Tony Perkins Also Sounded the Alarm

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins exposed the hypocrisy involved, and, as you can see, with his statement reminding readers of Mitt Romney’s defense of natural marriage in 2006,  he was just getting started.

Regardless of the action of Congress, there are millions of Americans who will remain steadfast in their love for their fellow human being, by remaining committed to these truths: that marriage is ordained by God and men and women are created in His image.
—Family Research Council President Tony Perkins—

Princeton University Professor Robert P. George posted this on Facebook:

I don’t know which of the following Republican senators will be seeking re-election, or election to another office, in the next two, four, or six years, but doing what I can to bring about their defeat will be my number one political priority. I hope other social conservatives feel the same way. Betrayal needs to be punished, or you get more and more of it. Social conservatives should have learned this truth by now.

Roy Blunt of Missouri
Richard Burr of North Carolina
Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia
Susan Collins of Maine
Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming
Rob Portman of Ohio
Dan Sullivan of Alaska
Mitt Romney of Utah
Thom Tillis of North Carolina
Lisa Murkowski of Alaska
Joni Ernst of Iowa
Todd Young of Indiana

If trying to defeat these politicians means civil war in the Republican Party and benefits the Democrats, that is a price those of us who are social conservatives need to be willing to pay as part of a longer term strategy. The Democrats will love it, of course, and benefit from it. They will do a lot of damage that will take a long time to undue. But at a certain point it simply becomes necessary for conservatives to do what liberals and progressives, to their credit and benefit, have long done, which is to refuse to tolerate betrayal.

And who knows? The Democrats may well have their own problems and damaging divisions over the next two to six years. So maybe the cost will not be as high as I am supposing it might be.

One thing is absolutely necessary for social conservatives: we *must* recruit strong candidates–candidates who can win. When that happens, they usually do win. Florida, for example, is not an historically especially socially conservative state. Ron DeSantis, a strong and outspoken social conservative (“Florida is where Woke goes to die”) was just re-elected in a monumental landslide. Marco Rubio also won re-election–against a formidable Democratic opponent–by an impressive margin. Pennsylvania is a similar state–a “swing” or “purple” state, as they say–the Republicans ran terrible candidates for the US Senate and the governorship and got crushed. Strong, effective candidates can and do make the difference.

End of sermon.

Here’s my take, in part —

These Senators are at fault, but so are all the pastors in America who have, over the last several years, refused to talk about marriage from biblical and theological perspectives, emphasizing that marriage is sacred and holy and a picture of Christ’s relationship with His church. They say they care about evangelism, but they have refused to uphold natural marriage in society and so refused to point to an image that helps the world understand Christ’s sacrifice for sinners. They are cowards, and they need to repent and ask God to empower them to speak the truth on this issue. When the state dictates that marriage is something it is not, it acts as god, and tyranny reigns. This is another reason pastors must speak out! The state has abused its God-given authority to commend good and punish evil. Our government instead is calling good evil and evil good! Just as the silence of the German Church in the 1930s led to all sorts of horrors, the American church in our day is passively allowing this nation to travel the same kind of path. Unless things change, this will not end well. All of this is rooted in the same toxic soil that has given rise to puberty blockers and surgeries that mutilate otherwise healthy bodies, exacerbating poor self images and robbing young people of their ability to become fathers or mothers. It is time for Christians to speak out against this evil! Read Eric Metaxas’s new book Letter to the American Church.

Megan Basham summarizes well the point I’m trying to make. She doesn’t mention pastors directly, but what she says applies to them.

One More Example of the Left’s Hypocrisy and its Detachment from Reality

The above obviously is a developing story. Yet by now, it ought to be evident to everyone with any ability to read headlines that bedrock American principles like freedom of speech and expression continue take huge beatings. They won’t survive unless things change. Unalienable rights must be defended, and thankfully, Alliance Defending Freedom is taking an active role in upholding God-given rights such as free speech.

Lorie Smith is a web designer.

Through her business, 303 Creative, Lorie creates unique and beautiful websites for her clients. Like Jack [Phillips], Lorie serves everyone. She just cannot express all messages because of her deeply held religious convictions. But because of the law [in Colorado where she lives and works], Lorie could be punished simply for offering to create websites only celebrating weddings consistent with her beliefs.

Lorie knows this is a violation of her First Amendment rights. So, with the help of Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) attorneys, she challenged the law in court. Unfortunately, so far, the courts have declined to protect Lorie’s rights.

In July 2021, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit ruled against Lorie, holding that Colorado can force her to create websites promoting messages that contradict her beliefs about marriage. Chief Judge Tymkovich wrote a powerful dissent, calling the majority’s holding “unprecedented” and “staggering,” stating that “[t]he Constitution protects Ms. Smith from the government telling her what to say…” She appealed to the Supreme Court of the United States on September 24, 2021, and the Court granted her petition for review on February 22, 2022. Oral arguments are set for December 5, 2022.

Lorie’s case will be heard before the Supreme Court on Monday, December 5, 2022. Please be in prayer for this case.

Folks, that is where we are. If we don’t speak up and defend our God-given rights to live according to our deeply held beliefs (beliefs that, until just recently, were widely accepted in society), we will lose those rights, and our children and grandchildren ill grow up in a very different world than the one we enjoyed with its freedoms and liberties.

Here’s the disconnect with regard to the left. Today, the left thinks it’s great if a male identifies as a female or vice versa. Leftists will relentlessly defend anyone’s “right” to live out the identity with which he or she feels most comfortable — unless, of course, that person identifies as a Christian. If you’re a believer in Christ and hold to biblical values, then somehow your perspective not only is not to be celebrated; it also is deemed unwelcome and even harmful.

Leftists will relentlessly defend anyone’s “right” to live out the identity with which he or she feels most comfortable — unless, of course, that person identifies as a Christian.

“Diversity!” they scream! Their actions betray them. They’re not interested in real diversity. If they were, they would make room for people like Lorie.

And me. And quite probably you, too.

Until tolerance is once again treated as a two-way street, we must push back on a multitude of levels against the direction our country is headed — because it is headed toward destruction and tyranny. We cannot allow tyrants to steal our elections, or our freedoms.

Won’t you join me in the efforts being made to oppose implementation of their agendas?
