Black History Month—February of each year—encourages Americans everywhere to explore, discover, and appreciate the rich contributions of blacks to American history and American life. Frederick Douglass (1818-1895) is a true hero everyone ought to know. His story truly is remarkable. A slave who became a statesman, Douglass also became an articulate defender of the US Constitution. In fact, he helped lead America out of slavery by pointing to and upholding the Constitution. No kidding!
